Arrival & Union Square

Fly into San Francisco on your own flight. A short rideshare brings you to the Courtyard by Marriott, right in the heart of Union Square and our home for the next three nights. Once settled in, the afternoon is yours — and there is no better introduction to the city than Union Square dressed for the holidays. The towering Macy's tree anchors the square, the outdoor ice rink glides along beneath the lights, and the beloved Macy's SF SPCA windows are filled with adoptable puppies and kittens. Your two-day hop-on-hop-off bus pass will be ready, so anyone who would like a relaxed orientation loop of the city can hop aboard and start getting the lay of the land. This evening we gather for a warm welcome dinner to toast the trip and the days ahead.

Cable Cars & the Waterfront

Enjoy breakfast this morning on your daily credit at the hotel or a nearby spot of your choosing. Then we lean into the most classic San Francisco day of all — we ride the Powell-Hyde cable car, decorated for the season, up and over Nob Hill, past the famous curves of Lombard Street, and down to the bay with sweeping views along the way. The waterfront is ours to explore at an easy pace: visit the sea lions at Pier 39, wander Fisherman's Wharf, and step into Ghirardelli Square for a little chocolate. Plenty of free time to browse, take photos, and enjoy lunch on your own. Your bus pass is good all day for getting around. This evening, dinner is on your own — the wharf is a wonderful spot, and the classic Scoma's is a longtime favorite if you'd like a recommendation.

Day 3
Sat Dec 12

Muir Woods, Sausalito & Lightscape

After breakfast on your credit, we cross the Golden Gate Bridge for a guided half-day tour of Muir Woods National Monument, where we walk the shaded paths beneath ancient coastal redwoods that have stood for centuries. From there we visit Sausalito, a charming Mediterranean-style village on the bay with lovely shops, galleries, and waterfront views. Back in the city by early afternoon, the rest of the day is yours — perhaps shopping around Union Square, exploring Chinatown, or visiting the Ferry Building. As evening falls, we head to Golden Gate Park for Lightscape: an enchanting after-dark stroll along a mile-long trail of more than a million lights, glowing sculptures, music, and water features, with hot cocoa to warm your hands. Afterward we gather for a warm dinner together to cap the day.

Brunch & A Relaxed Send-Off

Our final day is a relaxed one. We gather for a send-off brunch near Union Square, then the day is open for whatever calls to you — a last bit of shopping, a stroll through the holiday decorations, or simply a quiet coffee before we go. Because our flight home is an overnight red-eye, there is no need to rush. The hotel will hold luggage after checkout so we can make the most of the day, grab a bite before heading to the airport, and fly home overnight, arriving Monday morning rested and full of memories.

Is airfare included?

No — round-trip airfare is not included. You'll book your own flights into and out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Airport transfers in the city (shared rideshare) are included in the package.
